European Covenant of Regional Authorities, Lisboa 2017

In May 2017 the Serra Henriques Foundation organized a meeting in the Lisbon region, together with the European Cities and Regions for Culture (LIKE Culture.EU), the municipalities of Lisbon and Almada, with the support of the European Committee of Regions and the Portuguese Government. This meeting, dedicated to cooperation and to the paths towards a united Europe, was attended by 60 representatives of municipalities, Regional Commissions of Coordination and Development, cultural entities and European institutions.

The two municipalities members of the LIKE Culture network presented their strategic guidelines regarding cultural policy and local projects that stand out by aiming for transnational collaboration.

The board of the European network framed these initiatives in the advantages of networking, such as the identification of partners or EU funding.

During the sessions, the delegates highlighted local challenges in the domains of territorial collaboration and cultural policies, with direct replies from the Portuguese Minister of Culture, Luís Filipe de Castro Mendes, and the President of the European Committee of Regions, Karl-Heinz Lambertz.
